Another Year with Up “word” Bound

Students learn the elements of interviewing by asking each other questions.

Southeastern Louisiana University started off their 2012 summer Upward Bound Classic and Math/Science Programs yesterday with a bang.

With over 300 students from the surrounding parishes, high school students begin a 6-week program that combines academic study during the day and cultural classes at night.

In addition to biology, English, Spanish, algebra and history, the students are exposed to drawing, public speaking, aerobics, scrapbooking and glee.

Students learn the difference between open-ended and closed questions.

For the third year in a row, the journalism class has been keeping a blog and podcasting their adventures on the university campus.

During the first week, students learn the elements of interviewing and write profiles on other classmates.

When interviewing, always remember to ask yourself what your readers want to know that they haven’t already read.
