Opinion on Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings in things such as commercial sexual explosion, slavery, or forced labor. Many people think human trafficking only takes place in countries far away like Africa and India. The truth is, human trafficking takes place right here in America.

Every day people are being sold into this trade, it may even be taking place in your home town. I believe human trafficking is horrible. It’s really sad to think that so many people are a part of this unjust system. Human trafficking doesn’t just happen to one group of people.

It’s happening to people just like you and me. Anybody can become a victim. Human trafficking is mostly found in women and children under 18, but men and adults can become trafficking victims also. The sad truth is, products you eat, wear, and use everyday, may have been made by a human trafficking victim.

Like I said, human trafficking is everywhere so it wouldn’t be surprising seeing something made by a victim reach your hometown. A lot of people send money to far away countries to stop human trafficking and while it is very important to stop trafficking there, it’s also important to stop trafficking here.

So many people have a hard time believing that trafficking is occurring so close to home. The truth is, there are 20 to 30 million human trafficking slaves in the world. Out of this number, 14,500 to 17,500 humans are being trafficked in America.
The good news is, human trafficking can be ended in your lifetime! To achieve this goal, everybody has to work together towards this goal. People around the world are already stepping in to stop trafficking by creating campaigns and stepping out of their comfort zones.
Human trafficking is horrible and I believe our generation needs to step in and demolish it.
