Were We Really Needed In Iraq

By: Dernnisha Smith

We’ve all heard the name Sadam Hussein, right? We’ve heard about the weapons in Iraq that were harmful to OUR country, right? We also heard about when Sadam was found and executed.

We all just knew he was dangerous! There were never any weapons found, though! What justified the military staying there years after he was gone.

When civilians weren’t in harm in America anymore, why did Iraq still remain so important to our government? Is it our business how their government works and what they do overseas? Let’s talk about the facts…

December 31, 2011, we all cheered because our troops were home and safe and Iraq was no longer a problem. Today, I ask, though, was it worth it to begin with?

More than 4,500 Americans died and 32,000 were wounded. Four in ten of all the soldiers who made it back home suffer with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). When our soldiers got home, they were breathing and they looked healthy, but then again they weren’t exactly the same as before. They were paranoid, or uncomfortable in crowds, and they felt as if everyone around them was out to get them.

Many of the soldiers mental states never returned to the way they used to be, but there is not help for them. Does anyone care about them when they are finished fighting for our home? Are they any use to us anymore? I’ve been trying to figure out why the soldiers are committing suicide and why no-one is doing anything about it, but who cares, right? Someone’s father or son, mother or daughter, cousins, aunties, and uncles died, but our country moved on and it’s ridiculous.

The truth is, our soldiers should’ve left Iraq a long time ago. When Sadam was no longer a problem, the people had a right to have their family back home. If we would’ve pulled away a long time ago, maybe the blood spilled could’ve been lessened. It is absolutely ridiculous the amount of time we spent in their country.

When Sadam was gone, the people had to be protected from a solitarian government, but when the government left, the Iroquoians were in horrible shape. I don’t believe for one second that we were in Iraq because of Sadam and weapons only, our country wanted something because they are greedy and they didn’t leave until they had what thy wanted.

They didn’t care about our soldiers out there and definitely didn’t care one they were home. I believe our questions need answers from the source of this pain in our hearts. The government needs to talk to the people.

Robbing The Poor To Feed The Rich

By: Cody Aucoin

Ol Dirty Bastard a.k.a. Russell T. Jones, was a founding member of the New York hip-hop the Wu-Tang Clan which rose to prominence in the 90s.

Outrageous 1995 MTV special that featured the rapper picking up food stamps in a limo, he was viewed first as a original rapper but now is criticized for getting food stamps while being wealthy.

According to a recently released cache of FBI files, he was also along with members of the Wu-Tang Clan allegedly heavily involved in the sale of drugs illegal guns, weapons possession, murder carjacking and other types of violent crimes lending credence to their celebrated song, “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F*** Wit.”

People like Ol Dirty want food stamps when they don’t deserve them. I think people like him should rot in jail because of this.

I don’t support the he thinks but theres no argument hes dead because of drugs because he has enough money to buy drugs but not food. People like him make other people who need it suffer.

So food stamps need to be stricter with who can obtain before I can support them again. But as he said its like getting free money.

Well if everyone did it then the world wouldn’t need real money everything would cost more and cause a depression in the economy so when people abuse the system they spend there money on luxuries instead of requirements. So it really hurts the tax payers wallet’s for them to do this

Is There A Link Between Video Games and Violent Behavior

By: Jacob Stull

Yes, violent video games are bad for behavior.

While people are playing video games, you’re putting them in a violent and brutal environment. If you take video game statistics and put them into real life, it’s pretty scary.

While people are playing video games they are not thinking about the damage they are causing, and their behavior totally changes. People defend violent video games and identify them as “stress relievers”. They are not stress relievers at all.

If people are so into the game they are playing, they will feel like it is real life. I have seen my cousins played violent video games and if they ever lost they freaked out. They also think of the main characters as role models and want to be just like them. And it’s pathetic.

my opinion:
While I do agree you are in violent environment, gamers do know the damage they are causing and they know it’s fictional, and isn’t real.

Many people don’t make the connection to reality it’s a game, now there are extremes with everything. So if you focus on outliers sure you’ll see what you want but if you look at the gaming population as a whole they don’t go on rage fits and live completely normal lives.

Now as far as being main characters you are playing as them living there fictional life so if a little of them rubs off on you that’s common look at book and movies for example: who doesn’t want to be superman or batman?

These characters in violent and non-violent games have lessons they teach, same in books and movies all have there originality

Read This With A Tissue

By: Ashten Roy

The Fault in Our Stars is a book written by John Green. The Fault in Our Stars is a book about two teenagers who are ill with cancer.

The story begins with Hazel telling us her age and that her mom thinks she is depressed. She then mentions a support group which her mother insists she attend. Hazel meets Augustus at the support group that Hazel’s mom insist she go to. Augustus is a very confident, witty boy.

In this review, the author mentions how “cancer books” are very overused. She mentions that there are really no new directions you can take on this topic.

The author also talks about how this book is very John Green. “The Fault in Our Stars isn’t a bad book, but it’s a standard cancer book, and, sadly, a standard John Green book, with standard John Green humor and standard John Green characters speaking in the very same John Green voice.” She mentions how this story is full of cliches and so much like his other books.

While I do agree that there are a lot of cancer books, I don’t think John Green takes the usual approach.  John Green does have a specific writing style, but this book is different from his other books. Although this story is a love story, it’s not full of cliches.

The whole story doesn’t just revolve around this great love story. This book mentions the different battles of cancer that different cancer patients go through. John Green also has a way to make this story authentic. It’s not full of sentimental life lessons that make this story unrealistic.

The characters in this story are full of humor and act like normal teenagers. This book is full of sadness, but also full of joy.

This book is beautifully crafted.  I recommend that you take a moment to read it.

Now Hear This

By: Justin Fernandez

The Background:

Electra Heart is the second album written by Marina Diamondis, or Marina & the Diamonds. She is a Welsh singer/songwriter who rose to fame with this album.

The songs on the album are as followed: 1. Bubblegum B*tch, 2. Primadonna, 3. Lies, 4. Homewrecker, 5. Starring Role, 6. The State of Dreaming, 7. Power & Control, 8. Sex Yeah!, 9. Teen Idle, 10. Valley of the Dolls, 11. Hypocrates, 12. How to Be a Heartbreaker, 13. Radioactive, 14. Fear and Loathing, and lastly, 15. Living Dead. The album was released on April 27th, 2012. It is considered an electronic pop album.

My Review:

This is the best album on the market. I own every song on it. It is beautifully written, and I cannot stop listening to it. My favorite song on the album is: Teen Idle. This song can be interpreted in many ways. I interpret it to be about Marina’s teenage years. It is a time in her life when she feels depressed, and “conned.”

She craves to be something that she is not: a bottle blonde, idol teen, and a virgin pure. This is something that many teenagers want. They want to feel accepted by others, so they try to ‘fit in’ by being something that they’re not. This song describes different stages that a depressed person goes through: Jealousy: “I wanna be a bottle blonde”, Anger: “I want blood, guts..”, Loss of Faith: “Burning up the Bible.”, Regret: “The wasted years, the wasted youth.”, and Isolation: “Oh god, I’m gonna die alone.”

Overall, this album is an all-time favorite of mine.

British Time Traveler? Yes, Please

By: Ashten Roy

Sherlock Holmes is a series created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887. Sherlock has been made into movies and shows many times. In 2010, BBC One released a new TV show based on this series simply called Sherlock. This show was created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.

This show stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson. Recurring cast members include Rupert Graves as DI Greg LestradeAndrew Scott as Jim Moriarty, Mark Gatiss as Mycroft Holmes, and Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson.

Sherlock is a contemporary take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series. This show follows Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson’s many adventures. Sherlock Holmes is an astounding character. Sherlock’s partner is Dr. John Watson. Dr. Watson is a war veteran who participated in the Afghanistan war.

The cast for this show is amazing. Benedict Cumberbatch portrays Holmes perfectly.  Martin Freeman also completely becomes his character. These two actors work beautifully together. Their banters and comments really make the show feel real.  The other actors also work to give the show an authentic feel.

Each season of Sherlock consist of three, ninety minute episodes. There are two seasons as of now and one in production. The fourth season has been recently announced. There is a total of six episodes: “A Study in Pink,” “The Blind Banker,” The Great Game,” “A Scandal in Belgravia,” “The Hounds of Baskerville,” and, “The Reichenbach Fall“.

Sherlock is a marvelous show. The show takes place in the 21st century and has been much modernized.  Sherlock and John use recent technology like iPhones and laptops.

My favorite episode of this entire series is The Reichenbach Fall. This episode takes your heart and rips it out. So many things happen in this episode. This show is perfect and I fell in love with it from the first time I watched it.

Iron Man 3 Is This Summer’s Choice

By: Alma McCoy

The Box Office says last week, Iron Man 3 managed to beat The Dark Knight Rises to becoming the highest grossing solo superhero movie of all-time. They say the fact that the Marvel Studios movie is now the fifth biggest EVER is was more impressive. They also say Marvel Studios sure has a lot to boast about. For example, having the highest grossing superhero movie ever in the form of The Avengers, Iron Man 3 has become the fifth biggest movie of all-time.

I say it’s the best of all three of the series. I’ve always liked Iron Man; I’ve stuck with it from the beginning. I love Robert Downing Jr. he did well in The Avengers too. Iron Man 3 may just be a movie, but it can inspire a lot of people. It can inspire people by letting them know its okay to release their inner-most power.

It can also let them know there’s nothing wrong with standing up for the right thing and being themselves. I know it kinda seems a little kiddy that I’m saying this, but hey, it’s my opinion. The box office also says Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle.

With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

The question was, “does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?” I say he makes the suit. That same situation can be connected to someone like you and me; sometimes we go through life and we might only have to rely on ourselves. Sometimes no even the people closest to you seem like they want to help you out-family.

Everyone goes on a journey everyday, from when they wake up til they lay down and sometimes they might feel like their back is against the wall and they can only rely on their smarts and common sense. So if someone were to ask I would say Iron Man 1, 2, & 3 are the best movies ever and they deserve the top spot in the box office.
